Position Description

Position Summary

The primary purpose of your job position is to provide direct nursing care to the residents, and to supervise the day-to-day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants. Such supervision must be in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern our facility, and as may be required by the Director of Nursing Services or Nurse Supervisor to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties:

  • Supervise nursing assistants and ensure compliance with policies.
  • Review and update policies and procedures.
  • Plan and coordinate nursing services and activities.
  • Complete administrative tasks like reports, medical forms, and charting.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Participate in quality assurance and facility surveys.
  • Assist with resident admissions, transfers, and discharges.
  • Provide leadership and training to nursing personnel.
  • Ensure safety and sanitation standards are met.
  • Monitor and maintain supplies and equipment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient in English (reading, writing, speaking).
  • Understand technical procedures and policy manuals.
  • Present information effectively and respond to questions.
  • Relate information about residents' conditions.
  • Apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
  • Provide age-appropriate care.
  • Work as a supportive team member.
  • Make independent decisions and handle diverse interactions.
  • Knowledgeable in nursing practices, laws, and regulations.
  • Possess leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Plan, organize, and implement quality care programs.
  • Handle stress and difficult residents with patience and tact.
  • Seek and incorporate new nursing methods.
  • Ensure safety and health standards.

Physical Abilities:

  • Move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Lift and move a minimum of 25 pounds.
  • Cope with mental and emotional stress.
  • Use prosthetics if necessary for vision and hearing.

Work Environment:

  • Work in various nursing service areas.
  • Handle frequent interruptions and diverse interactions.
  • Work beyond normal hours and during emergencies.
  • Attend continuing education programs.
  • Exposure to infectious diseases and hazardous chemicals.
  • Maintain liaison with residents, families, and support departments.

Education & Experience

  • Must possess, as a minimum, a Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university, or be a graduate of an approved LPN/LVN program.
  • Must possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as an LPN/LVN in this state
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Knowledge and experience with PCC preferred.
  • Must maintain all required continuing education/licensing.
  • Must remain in good standing with the State Board of Nursing at all times.
